Miyoko's Creamery - Double Cream Sundried Tomato Garlic

Fancy vegan cheeses are all the rage these days! No longer are vegans relegated to eating gritty, gummy garbage or no cheese at all. Several months ago, I went to the Portland VegFest, where I got to sample a huge variety of vegan goodies, including many of the Miyoko's Creamery cheeses. These vegan cheeses comes in a handful of different flavors, but today I am just reviewing the Double Cream Sundried Tomato Garlic flavor. Keep reading to see my take on it!

Buying. Miyoko's Kitchen has a product finder on their website. Online, you can purchase cheeses direct, or from Vegan Essentials. Expect to pay anywhere from $10-16 for 6.5 oz of cheese, depending on the variety and where you purchase from, not including any shipping.

Packaging. The outer cardboard box was sealed with only one small piece of tape. Inside, the cheese is vacuum sealed in plastic. The plastic has a corner where you can peel it apart for easy opening. After opening, you'll need something else to store it as the plastic it came it will not reseal. The package also mentions that the cheese can be frozen.

Nutrition. This product is almost entirely fat with a smidge of protein. Honestly, I wouldn't expect any sort of cheese to be a healthy food, but I could see eating something like this as an occasional treat. The only problematic ingredient in this product is the coconut oil. Also keep in mind that a serving size is a meager one ounce, the whole cheese wheel is only 6.5 ounces, so it's very easy to over-indulge here!

Tasting. This cheese is incredibly decadent! The texture of the cheese itself is very creamy. The bits of dried tomatoes are very nice, not too dry/chewy and the flavor added a nice sweetness without overwhelming the rest of the cheese. The cheese has a cheddary flavor to it, or at least it reminds me of cheddar (remember, I haven't had dairy cheese since '99!). It's so amazing and delicious it is way too easy to eat too much in one sitting.

Bottom Line. I have the fullest intentions of buying Miyoko's Creamery cheeses again, this flavor and all the rest! The only thing that's preventing me from doing so on a regular basis is the cost, same reason why I've only reviewed one flavor here.

It should go without saying that I absolutely recommend you, and everyone giving this cheese a try! Unless, of course, it's too expensive for your budget or you're allergic to any of the ingredients.
